If you have a smartphone, you likely have a few apps on there, but how many of us are actually using the apps we have?

Apple sold $37 million iPhones during the last three months of 2012.

There were also about $15 million android devices sold during that time.

And while the smartphone craze hasn't died down users may be changing the way they use their devices.

The Pew Research Center reports about a third of all U.S. adults have apps on their phone.

But having apps and using apps are two very different things.

Less than half of that group say they use at least one app on a weekly basis.

And that figure has declined over the past year, despite the introduction of thousands upon thousands of new apps.

It may be that smartphone users are more educated about what is available and know what they want help with.

A separate survey from the Pew Research Center shows that a good chunk of shoppers used their phones while looking for deals this past holiday season.

38 percent called a friend while they were in a store, seeking advice about a purchase, a quarter compared prices online while shopping to see if they could get the same item somewhere else for a better price, and 24 percent looked up a product review while they were in a store.

And traditional brick and mortar retailers beware, these bargain hunters are taking action.

About 20 percent of those who found a better deal on their phone ended up walking out and buying the item online.
