BALTIMORE - Kick off your New Year with a makeover.
“To get a new look I think would be wonderful for the New Year,” said About Faces Day Spa & Salon owner Helga Surratt.
The salon has been helping people stay gorgeous for 43 years, and starting off with a makeover is definitely a great way to go.
“It gives you a new jump start on feeling good again, and going forward with more projects that you have in mind for the New Year,” said Helga.
The key to it all is tailoring your new look to your lifestyle and your body type. The folks at About Faces love to change up your hair and makeup.
Freshen up your look with a hair change. If you’ve never had bangs, go to the salon and ask for bangs. And as for make-up, you can always ask a professional to help you create a new look that gets looks.
“That’s what it’s all about. It has to fit your personality,” Helga said. “Sometimes the steps we take in the salon are a bit more than you would do at home so we need to minimize and simplify it for home use."
“They are a salon, almost like a superstore,” said Baltimore Magazine Senior Contributor Jane Marion.
About Faces is part of Baltimore Magazine’s list of Top 25 Salons.
“There are some really great salons that didn’t make the list. This year we tried to be more county and city centric,” said Jane. She says salons like Studio 921 Salon & Day Spa in Locust Point blowout the beauty competition.
“There are some great spa packages here. It’s a fun place to come with girlfriends and sit and have lunch across the street at The Wine Market,” Jane added.
Jane says try her check list when looking for a new salon.

“Some people are master stylist with a lot of education and some people have less education and may be junior stylists, that only been at it a couple years,” Jane said.
