No shell left un-cracked:23 best crab houses in Baltimore area

Baltimore, MD - Baltimore magazine left no shell un-cracked to find the 23 best crab houses in and around Baltimore.

The July cover story, “Bring on the Crabs” gives an inside look at Maryland’s culinary icon and the Chesapeake’s favorite crustacean.

Senior editor, Suzanne Loudermilk was a guest on Good Morning Maryland and shared with Jamie Costello all the great places she'd travelled and all the crabs she'd eaten in her quest to find the best 23 locations.

She also taked about her travels all over the state and the sampling of crabs she'd had to to pick and eat to be able to be a good judge.

The issue includes an expansive 10-page crab house guide complete with photos of each and descriptions of everything from the atmosphere of the various restaurants, to the appetizers and crabs which they are known for. Useful tips such as a step-by-step guide to picking apart crabs by hand and how to make sure your meal includes the best catch are also included.

“We have Old Bay running through our veins and we know our readers do too,” said Senior Editor of Baltimore magazine Suzanne Loudermilk. “Picking, pulling and prodding crabs to find the best of the best is one thing this Marylander doesn’t mind getting dirty for!”

The feature also highlights owners from some of the top 23 for “Crab and Tell,” where they share unique stories and experiences from working in the Maryland crab business, as well as the tricks of the trade.
