BALTIMORE - The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reports an annual average of nine to ten documented infant abductions. Ninety-five percent of these abducted infants were located and safely returned to their parents.
Tuesday on Good Morning Maryland @ 9, Sharon Rossi, Director of Women's and Children's Services at Sinai Hospital, appear on Good Morning Maryland @ 9 to make sure instances like the recent story of a mother and daughter reunited 23 years after the child was abducted never happen to you.
Rossi talked about simple things you can do both in the hospital and when you get home to keep your family from being a target. Some of those tips included:
- Making sure you see a picture ID of any hospital staff member
- Keep the baby's bassinet close to the bed
- Have a nurse place the baby in a nursery
- Do not include home address on items, especially social websites
- Avoid using outside decorations at your home indicating you just had a newborn
