App could give new parents piece of mind

New parents have a lot to worry about. The threat of SIDS is frightening for any mom or dad. Talk to any new parent and they will probably tell you, they spend a lot of time checking in on a baby to make sure he or she is still breathing. Some students believe they have created something to give parents a piece of mind.
A team of students from Bringham Young University created an app. It's called the Owlet Baby Monitor and alerts parents if their baby stops breathing. The monitor straps around the child's foot and is worn like a sock. It monitors the baby's heart rate and blood-oxygen levels. If the baby stops breathing, or the heart rate changes, the monitor sends an alert to your smartphone so you can get to your baby immediately.
