SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Arnold Schwarzenegger says his lifelong penchant for secrecy and his ability to put his emotions "on deep freeze" led him to keep many secrets from his wife Maria Shriver.

Eventually, the secrecy caused the dissolution of their 25-year marriage when he was forced to admit he fathered a child with the family's housekeeper years earlier. Shriver filed for divorce in July.

The former California governor is revealing some of those secrets in his new autobiography "Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story," and in an interview Sunday on "60 Minutes."

"Total Recall" will officially be published Monday. The Associated Press purchased an early copy.

Among the decisions Schwarzenegger says he kept from Shriver were major heart surgery and whether to run for governor in 2003.

The former Mr. Universe traces his detachment to his bodybuilding days, where he tells reporter Leslie Stahl that he "became an expert in living in denial."
