BALTIMORE - ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' team has made a MAJOR announcement in downtown Baltimore.
For the first time in the history of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the surprise "door-knock" was made on LIVE TV and it happened this morning on ABC2's Good Morning Maryland @ 9.
Last week we told you that the Extreme Makeover team was returning to the Baltimore area. This morning the team announced that they'll be rebuilding a girls home in the area.
The group is Boys Hope Girls Hope which helps teens better themselves through education, community services, and more. It is a group that helps co-parent the teens to live more productive lives.
Today on Good Morning Maryland @ 9, Ty Pennington surprised the group of teen girls involved in Girls Hope and their program director, Kristin Norbert, and announced that they would be building a home for the girls, similar to the one that already exist for Boys Hope.
This visit by Ty and his cast of designers marks the second time in three years 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' has come to the Baltimore area. This time they are IN Baltimore. Not only was the live announcement made in the Inner Harbor, but the home is being built in Northeast Baltimore.
Just last week, the team held a pep rally in Timonium to provide information to volunteers.
"The pep rally is all about asking for help. We need lots of volunteers. There's lots of products and supplies we still need. We have a week to do that. We are reaching out," said Milan Vasic, show producer.
Although the crew was tight lipped about the location of the home at the time, the builders say we will be surprised by the finished product.
"I think the key thing is when people think of modular homes. They have a stereotype of small houses. This will change their perception. We team with good builders who take what we can do and they add touches you wouldn't believe is modular so people will be surprised when they see this house," said Rob Ebbets, VP Marketing with Excel Homes.
Now, volunteers are still needed to help build this home for Girls Hope. So if you are interested in volunteering, please click on the link to the left for more information and SIGN UP!
