It took The Other Guys to dethrone the dreamweavers of Inception at the weekend box office.

The Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg buddy comedy about the cops who aren't the precinct heroes brought in $35.6 million in it's opening weekend, making it the second highest grossing opening of Ferrell's career. The 2006 NASCAR comedy Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby remains #1, earning $47 million in its opening weekend.

After three weeks at #1, Inception dropped one spot, earning second place with $18.6 million. It has now earned almost $228 million in 24 days in theaters.

Third place went to the only other movie opening across the country last week, Step Up 3-D. The movie about street dancers doing their best to be the best in the world earned $15.5 million.

Salt and Dinner For Schmucks round out the top five, taking in $11.1 million and $10.5 million respectively.

The other big story at the weekend box office is Toy Story 3. It inched closer to the $400 million mark in its eighth week in theaters. If the pace holds, Woody and Buzz will pass the mark sometime Friday.
