It came as a surprise Tuesday night to members of the audience, celebrity competitors and viewers at home.
As the announcement was expected on who would go home with the fewest votes from the first two weeks of season 16 of Dancing With The Stars, Baltimore resident and figure skating legend Dorothy Hamill dropped out of the competition.
Hamill said the decision comes after speaking with her doctor about a spine injury she is currently battling.
"I have an injury that could be irreparable... nerve damage," Hamill said.
Hamill said it would be unfair for anyone to go home, given her condition and the situation. Hamill would have advanced to the third round of the show had she not bowed out of the competition.
