Rocker SLASH has contributed a new song to the hit video game Angry Birds.

The former Guns N' Roses guitarist has been a big fan of the game since it was released as a cell phone app in 2009, and now he has recorded a special track for the franchise's spin-off Angry Birds Space, which will play on its title page.

Company executive Philip Hickey says, "We're huge Slash fans, and Slash is a huge Angry Birds fan, so this was just an ideal match. It all happened very organically and was just a lot of fun on both sides. Our fans will love the track! Slash rocked the Angry Birds Space theme like only he could!"

And the musician admits he had a blast working on the project with developers at Rovio Entertainment in Helsinki, Finland.

Slash adds, "I walked in and it was massively colourful. There were Angry Birds gummies (candies) and sodas and giant plush toys and Legos. It sort of let my inner nerd come out... It was so cool."

The rocker, real name Saul Hudson, isn't the first celebrity to become involved with the franchise - Green Day released their own version of the addictive game last year (12), while tragic Queen frontman Freddie Mercury was made an honorary Angry Bird to mark what would have been the singer's 66th birthday last September (12).
