Producers vow to take Nora Ephron play to Broadway

The producers of NORA EPHRON's latest play have vowed to stage the show on Broadway as a tribute to the late screenwriter and director, who lost a secret battle with cancer on Tuesday (26Jun12).

Colin Callender reveals Ephron's passing will not disrupt plans to take Lucky Guy, about the life of famed newspaper columnist Mike McAlary, to the New York stage - and the tragic loss has only made him more determined to make the production even more special.

In a statement, Callender insists his team "can think of no more fitting tribute to her (Ephron) extraordinary writing and remarkable body of work" than to press ahead with the show, adding, "We are honored to be part of her legacy and remain committed to seeing her magnificent work Lucky Guy shine on Broadway."

Earlier this year (12), Tom Hanks had been in talks to make his Broadway debut as McAlary, although it is not known if he is still in consideration for the lead role.

The Hollywood actor is no stranger to Ephron's work - he starred in her movies Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail, and he and his wife Rita Wilson were close friends of the late filmmaker.

Both wrote heartfelt tributes to the writer/director earlier this week and posted them online.
