Actor IAN SOMERHALDER was forced to skip U.S. President BARACK OBAMA's second inauguration ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Monday (21Jan13) after losing his ticket to the big event.

The Vampire Diaries star jetted to the city to watch Obama's swearing-in, but he misplaced his highly-coveted passes just hours before he was due to head to Capitol Hill.

In a series of posts on Twitter.com, he wrote, "Ahh!Who lost his ticket w/ (with) great seats to the Presidential Inauguration while grabbing food?THIS GUY!WTF(what the f**k)?!BUMMMMER... (sic) Breakfast alone in DC sans (without) inauguration ticket.Time to get caught up on emails and tweets i guess-Meetings later to prepare for."

But Somerhalder still got a chance to catch the politician's moving address on television - congratulating Obama on a job well-done, he added, "The Peaceful transfer of power is such a cool thing... And there you have it... Time to get some major major stuff done Mr.President. Enjoy a day off sir, there will not be many more for 4 years!"

A number of celebrities turned out to watch Obama repeat his oath of office - among them, singers Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson, both of whom performed, as well as actress Eva Longoria, John Mayer and Katy Perry.
