The Summer heat is returning, and soon Summer movies will be, too! Here's a quick preview of what will be coming to theaters in the next few months:
While exploring the universe in search of clues to the origin of humans on Earth, a group of researchers end up in a fierce battle to save mankind in Prometheus. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's Noomi Rapace, X-Men: Origins' Michael Fassbender, and Oscar-winner Charlize Theron star in this Sci-Fi thriller from director Ridley Scott. Prometheus comes out June 8.
A hit Broadway musical will go from stage to screen on June 15. The movie Rock of Ages follows the romance of a country girl and city boy, with a 1980s backdrop and soundtrack. It features an all-star cast, including Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, and Julianne Hough. The film's story is told through the songs of such artists as Journey, Bon Jovi, and Joan Jett.
Honest Abe is back this Summer, but not the way you remember him. In Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the president is out on a violent mission to save the United States from being taken over by vampires. Lincoln is played by Benjamin Walker, who previously starred as another former president in the title role of the musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. Vampire Hunter is due out June 22.
Steve Carell and Keira Knightley poke fun at 2012 Apocalypse fever in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. In the movie, Carell's wife leaves him as they prepare for an asteroid to end life on Earth. He joins Knightley on a journey to find his high school sweetheart before Doomsday arrives. The film comes out June 22.
Arachnophobes might want to avoid the theater on July 3, when The Amazing Spider-Man makes his return to the big screen. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone star in the classic tale of the web-slinging superhero on a mission to discover the truth behind his past. Spider-Man will also be released in 3-D, for an even more action-packed experience.
The superhero frenzy continues with the latest in the Batman saga, The Dark Knight Rises. Anne Hathaway and Joseph Gordon-Levitt join Christian Bale in a star-studded cast. In the latest installment, out July 20, Batman faces villains Bane and Cat-woman.
Bourneis reborn this Summer with The Bourne Legacy. Although you won't see Matt Damon as Jason Bourne in this latest film in the series, you will see Jeremy Renner as trained assassin Aaron Cross. You can see The Bourne Legacy on August 3.
The end of the Summer will be the end of an era, with Whitney Houston giving her last performance in Sparkle, out August 17. Houston plays the mother to a singing group trying to make their way in the music business in the 1960s. Sparkle also features artists Cee Lo Green and Jordin Sparks.
