Catonsville, Md - Jalen Robinson is not your average high school senior. Sure, he takes AP classes and has a vibrant social life, but it is what he does in his excess time that makes him unique. The world of organized sports has become increasingly competitive and complicated. Teens have been perfecting their athletic abilities since they were in elementary school. Jalen is one of those teens. He stands out as a talented soccer player and possesses the abilities to compete on an international level.

Like any teen, Jalen struggles with life after high school. His situation is slightly different compared to the typical teenager. Jalen is considered by many scouts, a player with lots of potential. His impressive resume, which includes being the youngest player picked on the under-18 national team at the age of sixteen, has caused many professional scouts to believe in his ability to go pro. However, Jalen finds an importance in going to a traditional college and receiving a higher education.

To facilitate the need for Jalen to go to college is Wake Forest University. The prestigious North Carolina institution offered Jalen a full athletic scholarship. After looking at a variety of other schools, Jalen accepted the scholarship. Now on his way to college and with Mount Saint Joseph’s season over, Jalen faces the future. Part of that future is giving Jalen the opportunity to participate in the Under-20 U.S National Team World Cup.

“It was amazing.” Jalen commented when I asked him about his thoughts on his recent invitation. “I realized that sometimes you have to go through hell in order to make it to heaven.”

Jalen currently stands as a role model to others at his school and to his peers outside of the Mount Saint Joseph community. The most important part about Jalen’s story, however, is that there still are teens reaching for the sky and breaking limits that are put on our age group.
