Baltimore, MD - Tom King, Co-owner of Valleybrook Country Club and pool safety expert talked with Megan Pringle on Good Morning Maryland about the importance of safe swimming.

Additionally, during the summer months Valleybrook has 80-90 children taking Red Cross “Learn to Swim” lessons each week.

Tom provided tips and guidance on pool safety to people with home pools as well as recommendations to families taking their kids to a neighbor’s pool or a neighborhood pool or to a pool at a hotel or resort.

Valleybrook is holding its second annual Duck Derby on Friday, June 4, to benefit the American Red Cross of Central Maryland. The “owners” of the first three ducks to cross the finish line will receive prize packages from area businesses with values up to $300 each.

The event is open to the public, and a $5 duck rental fee will be collected from each person as they enter. The Duck Derby takes place in Valleybrook’s new “Lazy River,” the only one of its kind in Harford County..

Valleybrook is located at 1810 Valleybrook Drive in Kingsville.

“Our goal is to use our new facilities not only for the enjoyment of our members, but to help people in need right here in our community and also to create a fun family event for everyone,” said Tom King, one of the owners of Valleybrook.

American Red Cross provides training for Valleybrook life guards. The nonprofit was chosen as the recipient of the Duck Derby’s proceeds because of their work with local military families as well as disaster relief and blood drives.

In addition to Valleybrook’s five swimming pools and 11 tennis courts, participants in the Duck Derby will also have access to free face painting, a moon bounce, music and balloons. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Located on 20 acres in Kingsville, Valleybrook Country Club has been a family-run facility for 49 summers. The club was founded by Donald King to provide old-fashioned fun and relaxation at a value affordable to families. Last year a $1.3 million renovation took place, including the addition of the Lazy River.
