Keeping up-to-date with your child's immunization shots may be one of the most important things a parents needs to keep track of for their children's health.

That point couldn't be made more clear then when it comes to the recent increase in Whooping Cough cases in the United States. The number of cases is up 25-fold with a disease that is certainly preventable and treatable, but also deadly.

Today on Good Morning Maryland @ 9. Jamie first brought you a story about one family's mission to get parents to think about getting their child the Whooping Cough vaccine after the sudden death of their second child just over a month after birth.

Then Megan sat down with Dr. Thomas Vento from Mercy Hospital to talk about National Infant Immunization Week and why keeping up-to-date with vaccination shots is more important then many people think. Dr. Vento also talked about some of the myths behind why many parents are concerned about getting the shots for their kids.

To see the story filed by Dr. Richard Besser from ABC and hear Dr. Thomas Vento's advice, click on the video box to the right of this article. We have also provided a link to Dr. Besser's article.
