August recess is a time for congressional play

While the rest of us work, Congress takes off

WASHINGTON, D.C. - For almost the entire month of August members of Congress are on a recess break, while the rest of the city trudges away.  So why is it that the elected officials get a monthlong reprieve from the city’s notoriously sticky heat? Tradition of course!

But with the number of bills passed by Congress dwindling, days in session slowly declining and a favorability rating at an all-time low, is it time for some traditions to be broken?
