OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- Beach Patrol officials say Ocean City and Rehoboth Beach were closed for swimming Saturday because of dangerous surf conditions.
Rehoboth Beach Patrol Capt. Kent Buckson says officials are most concerned about riptides and waves that are approaching the shore.
He says they are rising about 10 feet high. Buckson says the weight of waves' impact when they come crashing down could cause injuries.
The (Salisbury, Md.) Daily Times reports that in Ocean City, only body-boarders with flippers and experienced surfers are
allowed in the water.
Bethany Beach Patrol Capt. Joe Donnelly said Saturday afternoon that the beach remained open to swimmers except for about 45 minutes earlier in the day when a small storm passed through.
He and others say they expect the surf to kick up Saturday night, as the effects of Hurricane Bill move up the eastern seaboard.
