Major Coastal Storm System

Reported by: Norm Lewis
Last Update: 11/12/2009 5:43 pm
A major coastal storm system continues to gain strength, and move in.  As a result, Coastal Flood Watches and warnings are now in effect for the immediate Chesapeake Tidal Basin as well as the ocean beaches in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey and the Carolinas.

Maryland will see rain on and off through the next few days, but one consistent factor will be some fairly high winds (20-30 mph on average).  In addition, temperatures will hold fairly steady - within a few degrees either way of 50 - until the clouds break and the sun finally reappears sometime Saturday.

The Atlantic coastal area will be the most affected with very high tides, high winds and very large waves.  This is going to be a long duration storm so the effects will continue into Saturday. High wave action combined with high tide cycles will continue to pose a very reat threat all along the eastern seaboard.

People living in flood prone areas along the bay should continue to monitor the weather as this storm will cause problems over a long period of time.
