The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety feels that the driving age should be raised from sixteen to eighteen.
Reports show that 5,000 teens die each year in fatal car crashes and 300,000 are severely injured.
Insurance groups think that raising the driving age will keep “irresponsible” teen drivers off the road and reduce these statistics.
Many states are considering making the change, but while Maryland lawmakers are discussing the issue, a final decision has not been made.
