H1N1 Guidelines for Cruise Ships

The Centers of Disease Control has issued strict guidelines for passengers and crew members who are on board cruise ships. The CDC is take extra precautions for ships that will stop in a country that is affected by the virus outbreak you need to be prepared.

The CDC is advising anyone who may be sick with flu-like symptoms to stay home. If you stop having flu-like symptoms more than 24-hours before you are due on board than you can take the trip.

Passengers are also reminded to use proper cough etiquette, wash hands regularly, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. These will help limit the risk of spreading the infection.

Crew members have further instructions about how to deal with sick passengers.

Crew is advise to wear impermeable, disposable gloves if they are treating a sick passenger that has flu-like symptoms.  General crew members are advised to avoid contact with anyone who may be sick.

If they cannot avoid exposure crew is recommended to stay at least six feet away from people who may be ill.
