Richard Sher is a 50-year broadcast veteran, with 15 years in rock radio and all news radio in the 1960s and early 1970s.
He moved into television in 1975 at WJZ in Baltimore. He was a news anchor, reporter, talk show co-host, and host of Square Off.
For six years, Richard co-hosted 'People Are Talking' weekday mornings, with Oprah Winfrey, they have remained close friends ever since.
In June 2009, Richard received the prestigious Ted Yates Lifetime Achievement Emmy award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Winfrey presented Sher with the award. “Baltimore TV viewers were disappointed when’SQUARE OFF!’was cancelled,” says Richard Sher, host. “After all it was one of the highest rated public affairs programs in the country.
I’m thrilled that ‘SQUARE OFF!’ has been on ABC2, for over a year. This show still sees the success that it had while on WJZ-TV. It’s local television at it’s finest.” SQUARE OFF! airs Sunday nights at 6:30 on ABC2,WMAR-TV.
