BALTIMORE (AP) -- Advance ticket sales for the Preakness are sluggish, but organizers hope Derby winner Mine That Bird's surprise victory will be a boost. Maryland Jockey Club officials say advance infield ticket sales are down about 17 percent compared with this time last year. The Jockey Club says corporate underwriting revenue is also down about 10 percent.
Former Jockey Club owner Joseph DeFrancis said the big question this year is whether the new ban on carrying in alcoholic beverages will turn away the crowds.
Jockey Club President Tom Chuckas says he is cautiously optimistic, noting that sales have a tendency to pick up after the Kentucky Derby.
