From Tails of Hope

Verdi -
Verdi is an adult female kitty who is very tolerant and sweet. She is already spayed and loves to snuggle on your lap. She was found alongside a major highway with a broken leg and part of her tail in very bad shape. Verdi was taken to the local shelter where she was immediately transported to the vet. Her leg could not be set since it showed a previous break which had not healed properly. Due to the injury of her tail, part of it had to be amputated.

After many weeks of confinement at the vet's office, Verdi came to the Tails of Hope Cattery. At first she was afraid of the other cats, especially since she could not jump and walked with a limp. However, after some TLC she has healed and adjusted very well and likes to be loved and played with. She is looking for a loving home where she could be the only kitty and would never be cold and frightened again.

Verdi is being fostered in the Columbia area.

Pet Care Guide
Weight problems in pets
Obesity is a common nutritional problem for dogs and cats, especially for females and older breeds. Overweight pets are often fed too much and lack adequate exercise.
Feline urological syndrome
Feline bladder disease or feline urological (yer-row-logical) syndrome is a disorder of a cat's urinary tract. It is characterized by the presence of mineral crystals (often called 'sand') which can irritate the lining of the urinary tract, plug the urethra (yer-ree-thruh), and form bladder stones.
Pet pot-bellied pigs
In the fifteen years or so since pot-bellied pigs came to America, they've become popular pets. They're much like dogs, in that they can be housebroken, walked on a leash, and taught tricks.
About internal parasites
'Internal parasites' is a fairly polite way of saying worms. Hookworms, whipworms, roundworms, tapeworms can all infect your cat. In fact, most kittens are born with roundworms and hookworms that are transmitted from their mothers.
Pet dentistry
Preventative dental care is one of the most neglected pet health needs, yet, it is just as important for your pet as it is for you. While cavities do occur in both dogs and cats, gum disease is the most common and serious pet dental problem.
What will be done when my pet's teeth are cleaned?
If you feed your pet dry food, occasional raw bones, and brush its teeth frequently, it should never develop dental problems. But even the most careful pet owner can occasionally discover that your beloved dog or cat has teeth that need cleaning.
Preventing heartworms
Heartworm disease is a very serious canine disease, responsible for killing thousands of dogs each year. The canine heartworm lives as a parasite in the bloodstream, especially the heart, of a dog.
Selecting a dog
Choosing a dog is pretty much a matter of what you want in one. Do you want companionship? Something for the kids to play with? Do you want a working dog, or one for hunting or ranching? Maybe you just want the comfortable feeling of companionship and unconditional love.
Identifying skin problems
Your cat probably won't develop a skin problem if you feed it a good diet, brush it frequently, and let it groom itself naturally. Some cats, however, are susceptible to allergies that can cause them to scratch, bite, and lick at themselves constantly.
Should I call the vet?
Assuming that your dog is in good health, an annual checkup and vaccination is generally all that's needed to keep him healthy. Still, there are emergency situations when your pet will need immediate attention.
