The
Maryland Board of Elections has hired a professional call center to handle the flood of calls it gets between now and election day. Many of those calls will be about rumors that have confused many voters to the point of having many believe they could be arrested or prohibited from voting.
One persistant rumor has been that you won't be allowed to vote if you where a campaign button or tee shirt. This is not true. A voter can where campaign paraphernalia. Only poll workers are not allowed to wear campaign logos.
Another rumor is that undercover police will arrest voters who have outstanding warrants or traffic violations. These situations do not affect your eligibility to vote and you will not be arrested.
There is no truth to the rumor that you can't vote if your home is in foreclosure. You can vote, but if you no longer live in that home, you must vote in the district of your current address.
Elections officials hope that people will do their homework now and not wait until election day to find out if they're registered and the location of their polling place. Sample ballots should have already arrived.
Officials also recommend that you vote during non-peak hours on election day. They suggest heading to the polls between 10am and 4pm.
