Democrat Frank Kratovil is claiming victory, one week after Election Day in the very hotly contested Maryland Congressional race.
Kratovil accepted victory after Republican candidate Andy Harris called him this morning to concede, a conservation that lasted less than a minute but that Kratovil described as "cordial."
The Associated Press called the close race last week for Kratovil, who waited for about 4,800 ballots to be counted yesterday before declaring victory. Kratovil's win ends 18 years of Republican control in the district.
At the end of Election Day, Kratovil was up by 915 votes. That lead grew to a little more than 2,000 votes after the first group of absentee ballots were counted Friday. Provisional ballots counted yesterday added more than 150 votes to Kratovil's total.
Kratovil will hold two press conferences today.
