Congressman Elijah Cummings led Barack Obama's election campaign in Maryland, so you might be surprised to hear what he has to say about whether he's up for a job with the President-elect. Cummings spoke with ABC-2 News before a celebration of Obama’s victory Sunday evening at New Psalmist Baptist Church.

Inside, they sang ‘The power of the lord is here.’ ‘We’re saluting what the lord has really done because for us this is a real mark of history,’ said the church’s pastor, Bishop Walter Thomas. ‘We have seen God do something that for many of us we never thought it could happen, at least not in our lifetime.’

Congressman Cummings said Obama’s first order of business will be to address the severe economic slowdown, and he believes item number two should be ending the war in Iraq. Cummings had this to say, when ABC-2 News asked him whether he might be up for a job in the new president's cabinet: ‘I don't want a role in the Obama administration. (Obama) needs some friends in Congress and I want to make sure he is successful. I want him to serve another four years.’

Sunday at New Psalmist, the job was to celebrate -- and to think about what Barack Obama's election could mean for the next generation. ‘It engenders hope; and it engenders a desire to be better, to do better, to keep striving,’ Bishop Thomas said. ‘It's very hard to talk about what you can't do when you see this happen.’
