WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama is visiting wounded troops at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
A day after laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery, Obama began today with an unscheduled stop at Walter Reed, where he is meeting with those wounded during their military service.
It's the federal holiday commemorating the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., and Obama is leading a day of community service, asking the nation to honor King's legacy by making a renewed commitment to service.
Later, Obama will make appearances at dinners honoring Biden, former Secretary of State Colin Powell and John McCain, the man he defeated last November.
At yesterday's Lincoln Memorial gala, Obama said America's problems are so grave it needs all its people's hands turned to the wheel. The vast crowd heard Obama say there is no obstacle that can stand in the way of millions of voices calling for change.
