Last Update: 11/04 11:55 pm
Former Baltimore City Council President Lawrence Bell says Mayor Sheila Dixon can turn things around.

Dixon is set to go on trial Monday on charges of theft. She's accused of stealing gift cards intended for needy city residents.

Bell was a guest on 2 The Point, the ABC2 public affairs program hosted by Terry Owens.

The one time mayoral candidate says the public has to remember that Dixon is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

He also believes she can run the city while the trial is underway.

Bell says Dixon can survive by admitting she made mistakes in judgement as well as moral mistakes, but never violated the law.

Monday's trial is the first of two legal proceedings facing the Baltimore Mayor.

Dixon is also charged with perjury.
