The jury is deliberating in the theft and misconduct trial of Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon. The jury got the case about 12:30 p.m.
During closing arguments, defense attorney Arnold Weiner drew applause from Dixon supporters and occasional laughter from the crowded gallery as he mocked the state's case as a thin and worthless web of reckless fabrications.
Weiner described Dixon as an honest woman of faith and dedication who received hundreds of dollars worth of Target and Best Buy gift cards as an anonymous personal gift.
Prosecutors contend a developer bought gift cards at Dixon's behest, ostensibly for Christmas gifts for the needy. It is undisputed that Dixon used the cards to buy merchandise for herself.
