Dixon Lawyers: Dismiss Perjury Charges

Lawyers for Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon asked a judge Tuesday to again dismiss two perjury charges against her, arguing that prosecutors used inadmissible evidence and that the city's ethics law is too vague for her conduct to be considered criminal. Dixon, a Democrat, faces trial in November on nine charges, and she could be thrown out of office if convicted. She's accused of lying about gifts from her former boyfriend, a real estate developer, and stealing gift cards intended for needy families. The motion to dismiss does not address the charges related to the gift cards. Instead, Dixon's attorneys argue that the perjury charges, which were thrown out in May, should be dismissed again for similar reasons. Prosecutors obtained new indictments against Dixon after the dismissal of those charges.
