Annette Harris says her husband was a champion of justice and understood the meaning of community. As she read a prepared statement on behalf of her family at a news conference today, police in another part of the city were arresting suspects in the murder of her husband, former Baltimore City Council member Ken Harris.
New Haven Lounge owner Keith Covington says he's happy to hear that arrests have been made. Covington was with Harris when he was killed. The suspects robbed him, but murdered his friend. With a sigh, he said, the arrests are, "long in coming."
Covington says this will give them all an opportunity to rebuild and reclaim their lives. That also means getting people to come back to New Haven Lounge and the other businesses that call Northwood Plaza home.
City Council member Robert Curran says this is only the beginning of the process of justice being served, but residents should feel safer. He says the police presence in the Northwood Shopping Center has been heightened to the point where it is probably one of the safest shopping centers in town.
