Baltimore City Police say they are making progress in finding the robbers who shot and killed former city councilman Kenneth Harris. And Tuesday night police made a visible show of strength near the jazz club where the murder happened.
About 20 police officers and detectives gathered at the Northwood Plaza, and knocked on every door in the 12-block area north of the shopping center, talking to residents, asking if anyone saw anything -- or has heard anything about the Harris’ murder. ‘I think it was a great loss to Baltimore City because he was a role model, for a lot of people in the area,’ said resident Renee Blackmon.
Police say it's a strategy that has worked in the past. ‘People see bits and pieces and they don't put it all together. But if we pick up a piece here, a piece there, we can piece it together because we have a larger picture,’ said Maj. Terry McLarney, commander of the Homicide Unit.
Police gave residents pictures of the Halloween mask they found near the scene, that was worn by one of the suspects. They say they've gotten good information from the public, but they need more.
Residents say they hope the canvassing strategy works. ‘Passing around the flyers with all the information and contact numbers someone may be able to anonymously call and report something they may have seen,’ Blackmon said.
