The bearded 50 year old known for hawking Oxi-Clean and other products in national commercials died suddenly Saturday night.
His death came hours after his wife says he suffered a blow to the head on a flight during a rough landing at Tampa International Airport.
"There's been some speculation about the possible role of an impact to the head that Mr. Mays received in a hard aircraft landing a few days ago. The autopsy revealed no evidence of any external or internal evidence of head trauma."
The Hillsborough county medical examiner believes Mays suffered from hypertensive heart disease.
The autopsy revealed the wall of the left ventricle of Mays' heart and the wall of one of his arteries were enlarged.
Mays' wife says when he went to bed....he wasn't feeling well....when she woke up Sunday morning....he wasn't breathing. His wife called 9-11, and described to the dispatcher what she saw.
"I just woke up and now I looked at him, rolled him over and his lips are all purple."
"Are you with him now?"
"Yes."
"How old is he?"
"50."
"Is he awake?"
"No."
"Is he breathing?"
"No, and he's cold."
A formal cause of death will not be released until results of a toxicology test come back.
Billy Mays is survived by his wife, a 3 year old daughter, and a stepson in his 20's.
