Last Update: 11/04/2009 4:30 pm
The University of Maryland Medical Center is building a kosher pantry with refrigerator, sink, microwave and cabinets for Orthodox Jewish patients.

The hospital said the kosher pantry will allow the patients to follow their religious traditions and be close to family and friends. The pantry's dedication was Wednesday.

Bikur Cholim's Baltimore chapter is responsible to stock and maintain the pantry, which will include a pullout bed for family to sleep on during Sabbaths.

The kosher options in the cafeteria and for patients before the pantry will continue to be offered to patients and their families.
