Many parents hold their breath when they know their child is bringing home a report card. That's because as parents, we all want our children to do well.
When a child's report card is worse than expected, many times it opens the door to an awkward conversation. What do you say? How do you react?
On Good Morning Maryland @ 9, Ben Shifrin from the Jemicy School explained it's important to be constructive.
He also explained that the conversation should be tailored to the situation. For example, if you feel your child works hard, but his or her grades are low you would handle the situation a lot differently than if you know your child is not working up to his or her standards.
Above all, Shifrin says that parents should not forget that a report card is just a snapshot and it is, for the most part, a subjective review.
