Today was difficult. I came into work, snuck cake, popcorn (a Costello favorite), and a sleeve full of tricks for Jamie’s birthday. I won’t say how old he is (although I did this morning – that’s what you get for not watching our 9:00 am show). Here’s a hint… it’s a big one and ends in a 0. Jamie was born the same year Jiffy Pop, the aluminum can and pantyhose were introduced. The year he was born is the same year Alaska and Hawaii became states.
So anyway, today was tough because, I had to pretend all morning that I forgot it was his birthday. It was painful. I am sure he knew something was up – because I did this last year, obviously not on such a big scale because last year his big day didn’t end in a 0. The 9:00 am was the big birthday celebration, complete with singing telegrams, baby pictures, facts from his birth year, cake, the works. It was fun.
I have to say this – I sit next to Jamie for three hours a day. I have never grown tired of him. He is seriously the nicest person. He is passionate about people, Baltimore, his community, his co-workers, you name it. He adores his family and is so proud of his kids and their accomplishments. He volunteers, he listens… he is a dream-come-true as far as co-anchors goes. He is full of Baltimore knowledge, especially when it comes to sports.
So if you get a chance, drop him a line and wish him a happy birthday.
