This Is The Right Thing To Do

Reported by: Megan Pringle
Last Update: 9/16 10:53 am
It’s hard to forget Phoenix. Who knows what her real name originally was or if she ever had one.  She was a dog who a Baltimore Police Officer found in flames.  Gasoline had been poured on her and she had been set on fire.  Animal rights groups tried to save her, but her kidneys failed and she was put down.  Soon after, two appalling cases of cat abuse followed in the city.  Those stories made everyone from cynics in the newsroom to the person next to me on the treadmill ask, “What is going on?  How can anyone be so cruel?”  Local organizations like BARCS and The Maryland SPCA stepped up and came on our 9:00 am show to talk about the impact animal abuse has on communities.

Now – the city is on board.  An Anti-Animal Abuse task force has been created.  Their goals are to better prevent and prosecute animal abuse, which includes one of the most disgusting community problems – dog fighting.  It is about time!
If you’re interested, there is a meeting is tonight at 6:00 pm at Polytechnic Institute.  It’s your chance to speak up and get involved.
