It’s not that I enjoy body odor... who does?  However banning it seems ridiculous.  That’s what may happen in Honolulu.  A vote on a city council proposal would bar people with offensive odors from public transit vehicles.  It would make it illegal to have "odors that unreasonably disturb others or interfere with their use of the transit system." What?  Are you kidding?

I have come across some ripe smelling people, but not frequently enough to suggest it be banned.  Who determines what is considered a offensive odor?  Most of all – it seems mean, not to mention a violation of a one’s civil rights.  I know it’s Hawaii and life is pretty idyllic there, but do they have nothing better to enforce or change in Honolulu?

The vote is going to be delayed because a councilman, Nestor Garcia says the proposal has some technical problems.  For example - the language would allow city police to charge a violator with criminal trespass. Garcia says only the state Legislature can pass criminal statutes.  So are they going to state body odor to state lawmakers?
Please let me know if I am off base here, but it seems like a waste of time.  Are there that many smelly people slowing down public transportation in Honolulu?  I’m going to look into it.  If there are, I stand corrected, but from what I have read, it seems a little silly.  Thoughts?
