It's the Little Things

Reported by: Megan Pringle

Despite all the cake I wolfed down over the weekend, I have stepped up my workouts.  I am really trying to push myself, but I feel like I peaked.  I am happy with where I am but I would like to keep improving.  I called one of my buddies who is in ridiculously good shape to find out what else I can do.  She is the queen of fitness tips.  She always has simple, new things to go that she swears will give you a boost.
Here they are…

-Cut down on sugar drinks - there's nothing good about soda (diet or not).
-Try to eat lower fat or fat-free dairy products most of the time.
-If you're in front of the TV spend five minutes stretching your hips and upper back.
-Do five minutes of deep breathing and meditation at some point each day.
-Cut down on alcohol.
-Do 10 minutes of calisthenics like a quick circuit of body weight squats, push-ups and dumbbell rows two or three times a week.

It all seems easy enough.  After she gave me some of these tips we chatted about it and her point was this: when it comes to taking care of your body and your health, you can’t cram and a little goes a LONG way.  Challenge yourself to make a small shift in one thing that you’re doing that you know isn’t great for you in the long run.

Well Megan you no one ever mentions the poor-health of the caveman or even the "Man-of-the-Bush". Unless like today it’s a Geico commercial. Okay so what the heck am I talking about, being active all day or much of the day? In times long long long ago these individuals hunted or avoiding the possibility of being hunted, they were active most of the day so here is my advice. Before you break do something to stay awake, maybe a brisk walk, a couple jabs and punches. The greater your efforts and don't forget variety, the greater the return.
