Feel Good Friday

Reported by: Megan Pringle
Last Update: 9/18 11:38 am
I met Dave Slomkowski a while ago.  He came in our 9:00 am show to talk about a nonprofit group he started called Athletes Serving Athletes.  I prepared for the upcoming interview ahead of time and read about it -- but had no idea I would be so touched and inspired.  Dave brought James Banks aka Turtle with him.  They were a great team.  If you check out photos of Turtle competing in races, or ask him about the medals around hi neck, you can pure joy on his face.

Athletes Serving Athletes offer programs and services for physically challenged children.  They help these kids prepare for and compete in local races.  Services and programs are being provided at no cost to challenged athletes or their families.  Look at it this way – a child is told he can never walk, and thanks to this organization and their volunteers, he can experience what it’s like to finish a marathon, or compete in a triathlon.  It’s an incredible experience for the kids and the volunteers.

It’s a great organization.  They have a fundraising challenge going on right now.  To learn more, head to www.athletesservingathletes.org/6.html
