Brock: First, an interesting point about the clip show that aired at 8pm. The one thing that stood out is that Lindlelof and Cuse said the Losties will make it back to the island this season, so we’re in store for some good stuff.
Timm: I’d just like to say off the top, I thought both episodes last night were really good. Definitely delvered. A lot to talk about today…
Brock: Okay, first episode. I thought it was cool how they started with a record player just like in season 2 with Desmond.
Timm: Yeah I did too.
Brock: And a nice foreshadowing of how Faraday explained time travel later on.
Timm: It’s funny, I thought when we were watching the flashback….that the figure walking around was Jin, before I realized it was Dr. Handel.
Brock: Who by the way, they call Dr. Pierre Chang on the film shoot.
Timm: Who also goes by Marvin Wickman. Note the candle theme.
Brock: Another interesting point, is that Pierre Chang is an anagram for cheap ringer.
Timm: Nice one, I totally missed that.
Brock: Perhaps he’s the fall guy for the Dharma Initiative.
Timm: Good theory.
Brock: Did you have any whoa moment in the first episode last night?
Timm: Yeah, you know for me…it was when the people on the island started skipping through time, and Locke comes face to face with Ethan who died in season one.
Brock: Me too.
Timm: You know, the first thing I thought was are we going to see all our dearly departed Losties come back to life because of this time travel.
Brock: Not to jump too forward, but I think Ana Lucia’s appearance, even though it’s as a ghost, means all bets are off for actors not reappearing.
Timm: I just thought that was so cool. I wonder if we’ll see Charlie, maybe Mr. Echo. Who knows?
Brock: Charlie’s my hope…he’s definitely one of my favorites. I thought a neat point of episode one was when they used Sawyer as a representative of the audience saying “what the hell is going on here.” And Faraday references a record skip to explain what’s happening.
Timm: The one thing I want to know is when we see the flashback (presumably) at the beginning of the episode is whether Faraday was originally there with the Dharma Initiative, or if he’s, like the rest of the island folk, just still skipping through time. You know?
Brock: He could be the constant for everybody. Don’t forget the idea of the constant.
Timm: Well, that brings up Desmond. You know…why don’t the rules apply to him?
Brock: Maybe he’s the constant?
Timm: What makes Desmond so special? And does it have anything to do with his line (that’s appeared twice already in Lost)…”see you in another life, brother.”
Brock: So many more questions, but I do agree with creators, that we’re starting to get more answers. One last interesting easter egg last night, that I thought was funny. They often put sci-fi and fantasy references into the show, and I thought it was cool when the fast-food joint that Hurley and Sayid went to was called the’Rainbow Drive-in” an obvious reference to “Wizard of Oz” ….
Timm: Oh, yeah…No place like home…..
Brock: O.K. onto Ep. 2 What’s it called again..?
Timm: The Lie.
Brock: Yes, lies being a big theme here…
Timm: No kidding.
Brock: Interesting to note that this episode, not counting the flashbacks and forwards, takes palce three years later.
Timm: Yeah, do you think there’s any significance to three years?
Brock: Well, I read somewhere that they’re all building up to this one date…in 2010 (real time), obviously the finale that’s been agreed to.
Timm: Oh wow. Good call.
Brock: They’re already working on a sequel series to Lost…starring the actress that plays Penny Widmore called Flash Forward.
Timm: You sent me an e-mail on that and I was very excited…
Brock: The point where I really thought it got interesting was when Ana Lucia was a cop. And obviously, she was a cop in real life before the island, but we saw her as a ghost. And it just reminded me of the movie, SWAT, where Michelle Rodriguez (Ana Lucia) plays a cop. Funny.
Timm: For me, I’m dying to know who the other people Ben is dealing with. Who are all these contacts that he has. And what the heck is going on with Ms. Hastings?
Brock: You’re talking about the Butcher who was the Jeweler in Desmonds flashbacks.
Timm: No. The Jeweler is Ms. Hastings who we see in a cloak near the end of the episode. She’s in some kind of monastery or something.
Brock: Maybe she’s like a time keeper or something. Or maybe she’s even visiting Desmond in an earlier time. But no, it couldn’t be an earlier time…
Timm: Who knows? It’s crazy. But I want to know what the significance of these people are. And why did Ms. Hastings say they only has 70 hours?
Brock: Would that be what, like five episodes…because we seem to be covering two to three days per epsiode.
Timm: We’ll see.
Brock: My whoa moment was, even though I knew the dude, Neal, on the island, was going to die. I loved when he got hit with the flaming arrow.
Timm: Yeah, he was such a throw away character.
Brock: Are we to assume the arrows came from some natives because they skipped too far back in time? Maybe they are the people who built the big foot statue…
Timm: That’s interesting. But, what about the soldiers that Locke kills? Maybe all these people are earlier inhabitants of the island, from generations past..and these people are skipping through time, too.
Brock: And maybe in earlier epsiodes, the voices that people hear on the island before they die are these people skipping…they’re just on a different plane so they can’t see them.
Timm: So weird. So many questiopns. Too many to answer now. Can’t wait for next week.
Brock: In the meantime, if you want to dig deeper into Lost mythology there are a few links out there I recommend. There’s a great one at
