I was about to go on for a cut in at 8:55am, when Charlie Gibson says, "There has been an accident at the World Trade Center."
At first, those of us in the newsroom thought a traffic helicopter made a horrible mistake. I can remember my News Director at the time, Staci, screaming, "Noooooooo" when we heard about the Pentagon being attacked.
I went downtown and it was surreal, police with machine guns manning the intersections as Baltimore was evacuated. One of my best friends, works at WABC in New York, you could imagine what he was going through.
We remember how clear the sky was that morning, how blue it was, we remember where we were at the time, who we called first and how we felt to just hug our families.
This is a day we should all pause, pick up the phone and call a friend we haven't heard from in awhile.
Eight years later when I go up the Jersey Turnpike, I can still see the Twin Towers. Its hard to erase, hard to erase the day of 9-11.
