Strewn with riddles and clues, its up to you to solve the mystery.
The game starts off with a voice over of what happened when you attended your college and how you never want to look back. Apparently you do and you find yourself in your dorm room with a girl named Mei. You make your way to your friends room to figure out what you’re going to do first during an evening of big parties.
As the story moves along, it turns out that a new drug is making its way through campus and your friend happens to have some. You have your share and before you know it, you black out and wake up on some lakes edge at night. Let me just say if there were to be a video game that was a PSA to say no to drugs, this would be it. The drug causes hallucinations and after a while you can’t tell what’s the hallucination and whats the sober state. During the high time of the drug, weapons change in your hand without warning and rooms blur from one to another as you enter. Its bound to make you a little nauseous which I think was Playlogic’s intention. These little PSA’s start to become more funny and noticeable as the game goes on. You find research files saying that the spread of this spore disease is also through unprotected sex.
As you play through the game, you’ll see that certain characters have certain abilities and you’ll have to pick which ones you want to bring along. I’m not sure why this is, b/c if you choose wrong you have to go back and get the right people. This doesn’t make things scary, more like a waste of time. Luckily it doesn’t happen often.
What I like about the game: The graphics are pretty good and I appreciate the voiceovers and actual talking in the game lending more to the scary factor. Its hard to get creeped out reading the dialogue. The load times are really quick which surprises me considering the details of the rooms and items you have to collect. Believe it or not, I like that the puzzles are in between, not too hard, not too easy. But then again, if you’ve played a lot of horror survival, chances are you’ve encountered them before.
What I don’t like about the game: I don’t like that I can choose characters at the beginning of a chapter, when certain ones are already required. You won’t be able to get through the level if you don’t choose them, so why make me go back and get the right ones? Especially when new monsters do not spawned on the way back for making the wrong choice. Camera angles are also a nuisance. It is possible to get around it on occasion by going into fighting mode. Still, it’s a pain when you have to make it to certain areas under a certain amount of time (I can’t get too much into that without spoiling some of the storyline). The biggest gripe I have about this game is it never mentions how to save. Its not shown in the game and its not in the instructions. What’s worse is this is a continuous problem from the other versions. They had this problem on the Wii too. How do I know? I had to look it up and found it in a gaming forum for the Wii version. Since that was released earlier than the PSP version. A year and a half earlier! This is inexcusable because changes could have been made in the print directions. In order to save, you must find this flower (which its spores is causing all these problems) growing on a wall. When you approach it, it will ask you if you would like to touch it. When you do, your character collapses and you make it to a save screen and only then can you save your game.
Over all this game is fun, but the saving issue almost ruins it. I give it a 3 out of 5.
