Fair Housing Month Kicks Off

Reported by: Sherrie Johnson
Last Update: 4/24 11:47 am

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development kicked off the Fair Housing outreach event.  It is an opportunity for Baltimore City communities to hear from experts on fair housing.

National, state and local fair housing efforts address ending discrimination in the rental or purchase of homes and a broad range of other housing-related transactions.  This includes advertising, mortgage lending, homeowner's insurance and zoning.

With lending paranoia setting in and the growing need to build healthy communities and a vibrant economy, attendees at the event examined the theme, "One Maryland, Many Families."

The event addresses problems related to mortgage foreclosures, expanded communities and economic conditions and the benefits of culturally, ethnically and socially rich communities.
