One of the biggest names in bulk buying is announcing a potential
settlement in a class action lawsuit that could mean free months of membership for customers. The lawsuit, filed by a New York woman, claims
Costco renewed memberships after their expiration date and essentially gave customers less than the 12-months of access they paid for. Costco customers are being notified of the settlement via postcards. Those cards say anyone who renewed their membership after its expiration date between March 1, 2001 and March 31, 2009 may be eligible.
The settlement applies to all members, including those who purchased Gold Star, Business and Executive memberships. Those eligible for the settlement could receive one, two or three free months of membership to the retailer, depending on their renewal of membership. As part of the settlement, Costco denies all claims involved in the lawsuit.
