Unemployment Bill Wouldn't Help MD

Last Update: 10/28/2009 11:19 am
Senator Ben Cardin stopped by the Northwest One Stop Career Center.

He's pushing a bill that would help unemployed Marylanders get federal benefits for an additional 14 weeks.

The house passed a bill that would only extend unemployment insurance to people living in states where the unemployment rate is higher than 8.5%.

That would not cover people living in Maryland.

Maryland's unemployment rate was 7.2% in September.  The national average is 9.5%.
