The BBB is either ignorant of the law or part of an outgoing campaign to keep consumers in confusion in behalf of the big banks, you know money talks, I can't believe ABC news can publish something like this without doing a necessary research. The law clearly says that only accurate, timely and .... VERIFIABLE negative information can stay in a consumer credit report. Please check The Fair Credit Reporting Act, Section 611(a)(5). If the bank choose to get rid of old delinquent records in order to save a few bucks the consumer has the right to get the listing removed, that's why credit repair works, only a couple of banks in this country keep records for 7 years but all of them want to report their delinquent accounts even when they know that there is no way to verify anything because they tossed the records years ago.
