BALTIMORE (AP) -- Constellation Energy says it has agreed to buy a wind power project under development in western Maryland.
Constellation announced Monday that it has signed an agreement with Clipper Windpower Inc. to acquire the Criterion wind project in Garrett County.
Constellation Energy says it plans to build and operate the $140 million, 70-megawatt wind energy project.
The turbines at the site are expected to provide enough electricity to power 23,000
households.
Baltimore-based Constellation says the project was the first to win approval under a 2007 state law promoting wind development in Maryland.
The company says the sale is expected to close in the first quarter of 2010 and begin producing electricity next fall.
