The day is finally here: Apple's long awaited iPhone goes on sale at 6PM Friday.
The reviews are in.
And many reviewers say the most anticipated tech gadget in history is living up to the hype.
The iPhone combines a video ipod, cell phone, and web surfer.
Fans have been lined up well in advance outside AT&T stores and Apple Stores.
The Reviews
And for good reason: The New York times calls it "gorgeous" ... a "status symbol" ...and "amazing."
They were talking about the phone, not me.
USA Today says while it "isn't perfect" it is "still worth lusting after."
And the Wall Street Journal says "iPhone mania shows how much people hate their current phones and wireless options."
Most reviewers say it flawlessly switches between phone, photos, videos, and internet.
Other phones already offer those features, but the Journal says they can be almost impossible to use.
The only real complaint concerns AT&T's somewhat slow data network, compared with other carriers.
But if you want one, you dont care.
The Costs
An iPhone will cost $499 or $599, depending on memory size, which is important if you plan to store much music or video.
You will have to sign up for a 2 year contract with AT&T Wireless (formerly Cingular), at a cost ranging from $59 to $99 a month.
Add a $39 activation fee.
And if you need to cancel a contract with Sprint, Verizon, or another carrier, that will be an extra $150 to $200.
